Glimmering Deviations sharing event - Friday 10th (12–2) Helix (EC Stoner lvl7)
You are warmly invited to join us for this sharing of the preliminary practice as research project ‘glimmering deviations: 3D visualization and clumsy volumetrics’. The informal session follows an initial practical investigation centred on dramaturgical explorations of 3D visualization technologies for crafting place-based mixed-reality environments. PCI colleagues Dr Katie Gardner and Dr Yaron Shyldkrot collaborated with interdisciplinary artist-researcher Dr Shauna Janssen (Concordia University, Montreal), to explore technologies of capture as a scenographic practice with the material culture of volumes.
When: Friday 10th November; 12pm - 2pm
Where: Helix, Level 7 of the EC Stoner.
‘glimmering deviations’ query the capacity for technologies of capture to reveal a more tender relationship with the atmospherics of place. In this initial gathering we considered how might “turning towards a queer ethics of clumsiness for volumetrics” (Volumetric Regimes 2022, 163) open new dramaturgical pathways that allow us to experiment with and develop a computational inventory of technological beliefs for designing performance. Reflecting on the modes of fabricating virtual bodies and voices in MR environments, the project creatively embraces the failures and/or glitches of designing with technologies of capture, and the artifacts, sounds and atmospheres they produce.
Supported by the PAR Research group, this informal drop-in session follows a two-day workshop at Helix, the University's new digital learning space. Colleagues are invited to interact, experience and feedback on early practical developments and some performative experiments to inform the next steps of the project.
The session is open to all. Do come along as your feedback will be greatly appreciated. For more information, please email Yaron Shyldkrot.
