CePRA and the Leeds International Concert Series present a Practice Research event with Prof Roger Dean (Western Sydney University), co-editor of the excellent Practice-led Research, Research-led practice in the Creative Arts (Edinburgh 2009). Come to the concert or the talk, or both!

At 1pm, austraLYSIS (Roger Dean and Torbjörn Hultmark) present a free concert of improvised music for piano, trombone, and computational deep learning,

Soprano trombone and piano meet deep learning. A fusion of acoustic and electroacoustic sound by austraLYSIS: Torbjörn Hultmark & Roger Dean. Two international leaders in their fields present a performance featuring music for soprano trombone and piano in the context of electroacoustic sound and image. A special feature of this programme is performance-interaction with computational deep learning, used for music generation and timbral transformation.

Then at 3pm, Roger will give an informal talk/Q&A on the on the Iterative Research-Led Practice cycle. He discusses his austraLYSIS duo, working in interactive mode to blend music, computation, composition, improvisation etc, and how the different strands of this practice project weave in and out of research.
